The Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Kazakhstan Opens in Rostock

On May 5, 2026, a solemn opening ceremony of the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Kazakhstan was held in the city of Rostock (federal state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern). The event was attended by representatives of regional authorities, business and public circles of Germany, as well as media outlets.

Kazakhstan's Ambassador to Germany Nurlan Onzhanov highlighted the high level of strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and Germany, emphasizing the importance of interregional cooperation and the expansion of business contacts. According to him, the opening of the Honorary Consulate will serve as an additional impetus for strengthening economic and humanitarian cooperation and will contribute to a more active presence of Kazakhstani business in the region.

State Secretary for Economy, Infrastructure and Tourism of the federal state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Jochen Schulte, in turn, noted that the opening of the Honorary Consulate in Rostock marks an important milestone in the further enhancement of German-Kazakhstani relations. He added that this step will facilitate the growth of interregional cooperation, the expansion of business contacts, and the consolidation of partnership between the two countries.

Johann Killinger has been appointed Honorary Consul of Kazakhstan in Rostock. Mr. Killinger is the Managing Partner of «Buss Group GmbH» and has served as Honorary Consul of Kazakhstan in Hamburg since 2013. He was formally presented with a consular patent. The consular district covers the federal states of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Hamburg, and Schleswig-Holstein.

The participants of the ceremony expressed confidence that the new Honorary Consulate will become an important platform for bolstering economic, cultural, and humanitarian ties between Kazakhstan and Germany, as well as for advancing cooperation at the regional level.
