On 10 November 2025, Karaganda hosted a landmark event in Armenian-Kazakhstani bilateral relations - the official opening ceremony of the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Armenia, whose consular district covers the Karaganda Region.
The ceremony brought together high-ranking representatives of the diplomatic corps and public authorities. Among those in attendance were the Akim of the Karaganda Region, Yermagambet Bulekpayev, and the Mayor of Karaganda, Meiram Kozhukhov, alongside officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The presence of Armenian community leaders, business representatives, and members of the region’s cultural sphere lent the event particular civic significance.
In his address, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia, Armen Gevondyan, emphasized that the opening of the Consulate reflects Armenia’s consistent commitment to strengthening its relations with Kazakhstan - a partnership grounded in mutual respect, trust, and a shared long-term vision. Extending his congratulations to the newly appointed Honorary Consul, Mr. Hayk Sogoyan, the Ambassador outlined key priorities, including the promotion of trade and economic cooperation, as well as the advancement of joint cultural and humanitarian initiatives.
For his part, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Alibek Bakayev, described the establishment of the Consulate as a testament to the maturity and dynamic development of Armenian-Kazakhstani relations, which are steadily progressing toward a deeper strategic partnership.
Honorary Consul Hayk Sogoyan expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him and reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling his duties with dedication, contributing meaningfully to the further development of bilateral cooperation.
