Moldova Expands Diplomatic Presence in Kazakhstan with New Honorary Consulate in Almaty

March 27, 2026, Almaty – The Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Moldova officially opened in Kazakhstan’s southern capital. The new mission will focus on strengthening trade relations, supporting exports, and attracting investment. Entrepreneur Iskandir Karsybekov, who brings extensive experience in joint Moldovan-Kazakhstani projects, has been appointed as the Honorary Consul.

The official opening was attended by His Excellency Ștefan Gorda, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Moldova to Kazakhstan; His Excellency Zhanibek Abdrashov, Head of the Representative Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan in Almaty and Ambassador-at-Large; members of the Almaty diplomatic corps; and the Moldovan diaspora. The ceremony featured a cultural program, including the national anthems of both nations performed by Maria Krez and a presentation of Moldovan wines.

According to recent data, bilateral trade turnover reached nearly $31 million in 2025. Both nations aim to increase these figures, building upon a solid legal framework of 27 active bilateral agreements.
